The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree is a 60-credit degree completion program offered at six University of Wisconsin Colleges campuses and in partnership with six UW four-year partner institutions. The BAAS program is a hands-on collaborative program that allows students to learn when their schedule allows all while gaining valuable skills that employers are looking for. After you have earned an associate or applied associate degree, you can complete the BAAS program and move on to your dream job in as little as two years. Still not convinced? Here are four reasons why the BAAS degree is right for you.
1. Personalize Your Learning
The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree is the ideal way for students to tailor their learning to their career or new career path. Working one-on-one with an advisor, students build a customized degree plan suited to their interests or career. Students may choose an academic focus for their degree by selecting one of six concentrations including business, communication, health and wellness, organizational leadership, project management and sustainability. This allows students to gain a greater depth of knowledge in an area that they are interested in and passionate about.
2. Come Out a Step Ahead
Prepare yourself for the workforce with practical skills that employers are looking for. The BAAS degree emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and teamwork by emphasizing hands-on experience. Students are required to complete an internship, a service-learning project as well as a senior capstone project which provides avenues to gain experience and start networking within the community.
3. Get More Bang for Your Buck
Advance your career without breaking the bank and walk away with valuable experience. UW Colleges offers the lowest per credit tuition in the UW System. While the exact number varies from student to student, tuition and fees are between $17,500 and $19,000.
4. Learn On Your Own Schedule
By previously completing an associate degree, students transfer in 60 credits and enter the BAAS program with junior status and can then complete their degree with a minimum of 120 combined credits. While students attending full-time can complete the degree in only two years, many BAAS students attend part-time and complete their degree on their own time while raising a family or working. The BAAS degree program provides convenient options for busy students including daytime and evening class options as well as online and distance education courses.
