It’s Finals Week, which means it’s crunch time to study for your exams and finish up any other assignments. UW Colleges is here with a few tips to help you manage your stress. Follow these tips to overcome any finals stress, so you can stay focused on getting work done while feeling calm.

1. Get plenty of sleep

Though your schedule may be jam-packed, it is important to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night. Getting enough sleep strengthens your immune system, helps you retain information and leaves you feeling refreshed– all important things for doing well on your finals!

2. Keep a planner

Staying organized can help you avoid a lot of stress. Instead of racking your brain for the next item on your to-do list, write everything down. This way you can focus on the task at hand rather than worrying about remembering what else you have to do.

3. Take time to unwind

While it is important to study enough for your finals, it is also important to take some study breaks. Study breaks give your brain time to recharge. Studies have even found that taking brief mental breaks can promote better focus when you return to your task. Setting time aside to go outside, watch your favorite show or call a friend can help you decompress after working hard.

4. Stay connected

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t keep it to yourself. Talking to a family member or a friend can help you process what is stressing you out. Talking to an advisor can also be useful. They have resources to keep you on track which will leave you feeling better.

5. Make healthy choices

Eating healthy, getting enough sleep and exercising are healthy choices that will set you up for success. It has been found that regular exercise can directly reduce stress. It boosts your endorphins, improves your mood and can be a form of meditation. A healthy body can help lead to a healthy mind.
