How Does the AODE Program Work?

The Chief Student Affairs Officer coordinates the UW Colleges AODE Program. The program employs two part-time AODE Program Managers. These individuals work with the staff members designated as the campus AODE Program Liaisons, and with each campus Wellness Alliance, to plan activities specifically tailored for each campus. The Program Managers offer direct delivery of programs in addition to assisting other members of the campus community in organizing a variety of AODE events. They also serve as links to community agencies and resources.

How is the AODE Program funded?

In 1989, the Wisconsin State Legislature recognized the need for expanded alcohol and other drug education programs at the university level. The legislature allocated a number of positions and the dollars to support those positions to the university of Wisconsin System. UW System, in turn, provided the UW Colleges with 1.25 positions and the requisite funds to support the positions, with the stipulation that they be dedicated to alcohol and other drug abuse prevention and education. Subsequently, the University of Wisconsin Colleges increased the total number of positions to 1.30 so that each UW College would have ten percent of a position assigned to it.
