Business & Economics Department Goals

The University of Wisconsin Colleges Department of Business and Economics seeks to:

  • Provide students with the necessary disciplinary knowledge and skills in business and economics that prepare them for degree programs and life-long learning beyond the university
  • Provide students with an understanding of domestic and global business and economic issues that contribute to responsible citizenship
  • Emphasize teaching excellence among the faculty and promote and support understanding and development of new and effective teaching strategies, techniques and technologies
  • Promote and support research and other scholarly activity by faculty that expands business and economic knowledge and develops and evaluates new teaching strategies, techniques and technologies
  • Encourage the participation of faculty in professional organizations with the goal of maintaining currency in disciplinary and pedagogical knowledge
  • Encourage the participation of faculty in department, campus, UW Colleges and System governance for the greater benefit of students, campuses, and their communities
  • Foster the development of beneficial relationships between the department and other UW Colleges' departments and educational institutions at all levels
  • Promote outreach activities by faculty that contribute to the public's understanding of business and economic issues and perspectives
  • Encourage faculty to make available their expertise as a resource to the communities in which they live and work
