Dale Murray, associate professor of philosophy, is one of three UW Colleges sabbatical recipients for 2014-15. Murray will spend his sabbatical focusing on two inter-related teaching and research projects. The first is the creation of two interdisciplinary studies courses focused on environmental ethics. The second area will include writing a casebook that will center on environmental ethics by introducing readers to ethical issues and actual case studies.
Murray's sabbatical coincides with his current research surrounding frac sand mining. A 2012-13 Fellow of the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service, Murray has been studying and presenting on the possible effects and ethical implications of frac sand mining on Wisconsin's environment and human communities.
Murray teaches on both the UW-Baraboo and UW-Richland/Sauk County campuses.
