Duy Ha, Vietnam

Duy Ha, Vietnamese StudentAfter graduating from high school, I applied at UW-Marshfield and was accepted.  This made me happy because I would be able to continue my education. I signed up for the International program.  The classes that I am taking are helping me to improve my English. In one class, we learned about global brands. Everyone was excited because we got to talk about Pokémon Go, which is a hot topic around the world right now. I thought it was great that everyone could participate and be involved.

Spending time with other International students at UW-Marshfield has been a wonderful experience. International students are great. Not only have we been able to study during the summer, we also have done many activities such as: a Wisconsin Dells trip, water balloon fights, and International cooking. Experiencing international cooking is great, especially if you are a “foodie” person.

Being a member of the International Club has allowed me to continue my education while meeting new people from all around the world. In addition to many American friends, I now have friends from India, China, South Korea, and Taiwan.

Wu Chin-Hsuan, Taiwan

Wu Chin-Hsuan, Taiwan StudentThe reason why I chose UW-Richland is because of the people. The staff and faculty are friendly and willing to answer any questions. Before I arrived in America, my advisor kept in touch with and updated me with all the information I needed. It made me feel that someone cares about me, like a big family. This is something that you might not see on the other campuses. I spent most of my first year of college volunteering in the international office at UW-Richland. This is how I decided my future career, which is to be an international student coordinator. UW-Richland has forty-nine international students from thirteen countries, so attending UW-Richland helped me to understand what kinds of situations students will face when studying abroad. I also got involved in Student Government and International Club. I wouldn’t have imagined myself being a president and giving a speech on graduation day. The other thing that no one knows about is that I was the shortest UW-Richland Roadrunner mascot! I couldn’t have had those experiences if I went to another campus. When I decided to leave Taiwan to study abroad, I knew UW-Richland was my best and only choice to make myself a stronger and well-rounded. UW-Richland allowed me to achieve my goal. In the fall, I will be attending UW-Madison, and after being at UW-Richland, I feel fully prepared to be successful there.

Hans Perera, Sri Lanka

Hi, I'm Hans Perera from a small island called Sri Lanka. Studying at UW-Marathon County has been one of the best experiences I have ever had. When I first moved here the school welcomed me with open arms and the community and people are so warm and friendly. My time at UW-Marathon County has gone by so quickly and I enjoyed every bit of it. It's fun studying here and at the same time I took great classes with great teachers. The small classroom environment is one of the best things I like about UW-Marathon County. I can say my whole life changed after coming to this school, the way I look at the world and the passion I have for what I'm doing. If I could finish my undergraduate degree in this school, I would. It almost feels like this my second home and I don't want to leave. Again, I'm so lucky to be part of UW-Marathon County and I'm really thankful for this school.

Benjamin Thapa, Nepal

Namaskar! I’m Benjamin Thapa from Nepal. After my first semester at the UW-Washington County, I have adapted to the style of the university well. Being involved in soccer and other activities made it easy for me to make new friends. The professors here are really open with the students and make time to meet with them individually, if needed. The effect of their teaching has helped me learn a lot about the classes I took. Being an international student, UW-Washington County has really helped me learn more about the American culture.

Tanja Frei, Switzerland

Blonde Swiss student in red dressBeing an international student at UW-Richland is one of the best experiences I've ever had. I especially enjoyed the two week international student orientation before the college started because I had enough time to adjust and to get to know all other international students which makes life a lot easier. Not only will you learn about the United States when you are at UW-Richland, but also about many other cultures because many international students are on the campus every year.

Bohan Hao, China

graduation photoHello everyone! I'm Bohan Hao. After spending the first two years in University of Wisconsin Colleges Richland campus, I've already successfully transferred to University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I am starting my junior year. American life is not strange or unfamiliar to me anymore with all I've experienced at UW-Richland. Now I’m looking forward to completing the last two years of my bachelor’s degree at UW-Madison!

Woman in blue dress and student in white T shirt

I’ve very much liked UW-Richland. My English has improved and I’ve broadened my perspective and knowledge. It’s a very open and welcoming campus. I know I will remember campus folks with their smiling faces. I remember the thrill of my first impression of the campus. I have a home and friends here. I now study at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.

There’s nothing superior to the quality education, serene and gracious community, small classes, enthusiastic faculty and extraordinary attention you receive as an international student at UW-Richland. UW-Richland is a great place to experience authentic American Education and culture and still feel at home. Professors, staff, host families, fellow students, community members and other global citizens become lifetime friends and families. My experience at UW-Richland will confidently lead me on to a flourishing future. UW-Richland is truly ‘the best start for the life you want!’

Dmitry (Dima) Kuznetsov, Russia

Smiling young manMy name is Dmitry (Dima) Kuznetsov, an international student from Russia. It was a very hard for me to leave my own home along with my mother language and everything I knew, travel across the globe and study in the United States. UW-Richland is a great place to study, with a very supportive community, helping staff, tutoring options and many choices to be involved and active in college life through clubs—to learn and simply have fun! Small classes help students and increase the attention they get. There’s more one-to-one between students and professors in contrast to bigger universities where there are hundreds of students in one classroom. Our professors are always very happy when students draw near and ask questions. Join us and start your college education and great experience at UW-Richland!

Minshi Wan, China

Chinese woman studentHello, I am Minshi Wan. I came from Guangdong to UW-Richland two years ago. In that time I have gained a lot. Through the Guaranteed Transfer Program I have successfully transferred to the world-famous University of Wisconsin-Madison to continue pursuing my bachelor's degree. I think the advantage of a UW Colleges campus is the small class size. Students have more opportunities to work directly with professors and the classroom atmosphere is more active. The professors understand  the different circumstances of each student. The school helps us decide on a course of study and provides consultation to help us improve our transfer plans, so that our educational direction is clear.

Nina Dmitrieva, Russia

I’m majoring in engineering and I chose to start my college education at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley because my sister attended this campus. People are very nice, friendly and understanding at UW-Fox Valley. Although I am from another country, people accept me. This has been a very interesting experience to attend college in a different country.  Try it while you are young!

Sun-Ah Shin, Korea

Welcome! My name is Sun-Ah Shin from South Korea. I am a YFU international exchange student, a sophomore and a Student Senator at UW-Richland. This is my first experience studying in the USA. At first, everything was unfamiliar to me. Even worse, I was not comfortable with English. Many professors and friends helped me to improve my English and I am getting better. Now, I feel Richland is my second hometown :) I am planning to transfer to UW-Madison after graduation from UW-Richland. UW-Richland is the best place for studying – especially if you want to transfer to another school – because UW-Richland offers the Guaranteed Transfer Program and faculty are willing to help students. Since UW-Richland is not a big campus, you can ask questions to professors more easily. UW-Richland is the perfect place to study. Start your college life at UW-Richland!
