  • Accessing your My Documents folder online.

Before you get started (assumptions):

  • You are using Internet Explorer version 6.0. If you are not using version 6.0 please go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to obtain the latest version.
  • You are using Windows XP. This service may work with Windows 2000 although it has not currently been tested.
  • You have a valid UW Colleges username and password.
  • You have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on your home machine. If you do not, you may not be able to open all of the documents in your My Documents folder.

Known Problems/Issues:

  • Due to technical issues, faculty and staff at Baraboo, Barron, Rock, and Waukesha will not be able to utilize this service. We are currently working on resolving these issues and your campus IT staff will be contacting you once you are able to use this service. This will not affect student access at any campus.
  • If you are using a dial-up connection this service will function very slowly.
  • You should be using Microsoft Office 2003 to ensure that your files will open correctly. You must have Office Professional in order to open Microsoft Access files at home. Please note that MS Works is not MS Office so you may run into problems if you are using MS Works at home. If you do not have Office 2003, you can purchase it at http://wiscsoftware.wisc.edu/. If you are a faculty or staff member you will need your UW Colleges Faculty/Staff ID (ISO) number to purchase the software. Contact your Student Services office if you do not know this number.
  • You will be prompted for your username and password for the first file of each type that you try to open (i.e. the first Word file, the first Excel file, etc.). We are currently working on methods to circumvent this built in security measure.
