Position

The University of Wisconsin-Baraboo/Sauk County seeks an entrepreneurial director to develop professional development and community outreach programs in Sauk County and the surrounding region. Preferred candidates for this full-time, 12-month position will have experience working in a cost-recovery setting to develop training programs for organizations and knowledge of the adult continuing education market in the region. Successful candidate must be a self starter with the motivation, creativity, organizational and problem solving skills to grow this department.

General Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and manage the budget and the annual program plan for campus outreach. Responsible for maintaining a cost recovery program.
  2. Assess the professional, cultural and academic needs of the community by working with advisory groups, community agencies, businesses, professional organizations and individuals, and respond with cutting edge programs.
  3. Design, implement, coordinate and supervise all curricular activities (credit and non-credit) including course descriptions, course objectives, course content and course offerings.
  4. Direct complete implementation of programming including registration, collection of fees, scheduling of facilities and equipment, and the submission of all required reports and evaluations.
  5. Work with University Relations, faculty, administrators, professionals, the general public and public officials, to market and promote continuing education activities.
  6. Facilitate the continuing education extension function of the campus, assisting the campus to become the focal point of community service and cultural activity of the geographical area.
  7. Serve on appropriate campus committees.
  8. Participate in appropriate professional development meetings for outreach program managers.
  9. Perform such other continuing education duties as specified by the Dean.

Staff Supervision

  1. Identify and hire and/or recommend appointments of qualified instructors for credit and non-credit continuing education programming. Credit-course instructor hiring must be coordinated with the campus appointments committee and the respective UW academic department.
  2. Supervise and evaluate support staff and program instructors.
  3. Negotiate compensation with instructors, and process their contracts, payroll forms ensuring they are compensated in a timely manner.
  4. Assist instructors in preparation of handouts. Arrange for SMART classroom training, classroom keys and other instructor needs.
  5. Create and compile course evaluations and review with instructors, making appropriate changes based on student feedback.
  6. Recruit, hire and train work study student assistants and community volunteers to support special projects and events.

Customer Service

  1. Ensure telephone calls are returned and class registrations processed within 24 hours. Email or mail confirmations, parking information. Inform instructors and students of date and class changes. Respond to student emails timely.
  2. Process payment for classes, make deposits with Business Office and issue vouchers and/or refunds when needed.
  3. Provide promotion and support for online classes.

Promotion & Marketing

  1. Develop press releases and photographs for distribution to newspaper, magazine, television, and radio contacts communicating the university's role in community education.
  2. Keep mailing and marketing lists current.
  3. Maintain up to date and user-friendly website.
  4. Create flyers, brochures and design catalog to promote continuing education programs.
  5. Work with University Relations, faculty, administrators, professionals, the general public and public officials, to market and promote continuing education activities.
  6. Develop more profitable program promotion methods, replacing catalog market saturation mailing, including email, fostering relationships with community sectors.
  7. Revise and update UW-Baraboo/Sauk County Continuing Education website to make it visible and accessible to the community.
  8. Develop and give presentations to community groups about department and university.
  9. Coordinate or assist in coordination of outreach community events.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and computer proficiency required; master's degree in adult or business education or related field preferred. Educational programming and marketing experience desired. Familiarity with Sauk County is helpful in understanding community needs. Energy, creativity, organizational and problem solving skills, as well as motivation to work hard are required. Hours vary and may include evening and weekends as needed.

Minimum Salary

$47,833.00 Excellent benefits package.
