The University of Wisconsin Colleges Department of World Languages invites applications for a tenure-track position in Spanish at the rank of Assistant Professor at UW-Marathon County. As one of thirteen campuses of the University of Wisconsin Colleges, UW-Marathon County is part of the University of Wisconsin System and is a freshman-sophomore transfer campus with a strong liberal arts and sciences curriculum. Assistant Professor of World Languages

Appointment:

Tenure-track faculty appointment in the Department of World Languages, Spanish language and literature. Contract begins August 26, 2009.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Spanish preferred; minimum of M.A. in Spanish required. A record of successful college teaching in Spanish language, literature, or preferably both is expected. Extensive time spent in a Spanish-speaking country is desirable.

Responsibilities:

The average teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The courses normally include Beginning Spanish (4 cr.) and Intermediate Spanish (4 cr.) each semester. These are year-long courses taught in two-semester sequences. Some other possible courses include Intermediate Conversation and Composition (3 cr.), Introduction to Hispanic Literature (3 cr.), Literature in Translation or Culture and Civilization (2-3 cr.), Latin American and Latina Women (3 cr.), or Latino Literature (3 cr.). The successful candidate will build a strong program of Spanish language, literature, and culture courses through consistent enrollments and excellent teaching. The candidate should be interested in participating in interdisciplinary studies, Honors courses, service learning, and/or study abroad. This tenure-track position requires teaching excellence, continuing professional development, and institutional and community service. The individual must have a strong interest in teaching Spanish language courses at the undergraduate level. While a special field of interest will be expected, the successful candidate should be a generalist who is comfortable teaching a wide variety of topics within language, culture, and literature courses.

Salary:
