Position

The Department of Business and Economics: http://depts.uwc.edu/BusEcon/  at the University of Wisconsin Colleges: http://www.uwc.edu/ invites applications for a position in business and economics at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 26, 2010, contingent upon budget approval.  As a transfer institution of the University of Wisconsin System, the UW Colleges consists of thirteen campuses located throughout Wisconsin which offer freshman and sophomore instruction in the liberal arts.  The University of Wisconsin-Baraboo/Sauk County is one of the thirteen UW Colleges.  Offering the Associate of Arts and Science degree and several collaborative bachelor degree opportunities, the campus provides a University of Wisconsin academic experience - with challenging coursework, top-notch support systems, and high-quality co-curricular opportunities.  UW-Baraboo/Sauk County is located on 68 hillside acres on the northwest side of Baraboo. Just a short drive from Madison and Devil’s Lake State Park, the campus is part of a region that is rich in beauty, history, and culture.  UW-Baraboo/Sauk County maintains an enrollment of approximately 600 students, about 30% of whom are age 22 and older. Qualifications

Ph. D. in Economics is preferred. Ph. D candidates near degree completion will be considered.  Teaching experience at the university level is preferred and the candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and learning.  Knowledge of instructional technology will strengthen the application.

Responsibilities

The academic year teaching assignment is 24 credits and includes first and second year undergraduate economics and business courses, typically with no more than three course preparations per semester. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a four course load each semester.  Included in that load would be the following courses:  Introduction to Business, Introduction to Economics, Macro Economics, Micro Economics, Economic & Business Statistics, Money and Banking.  The ideal candidate would teach one course based on interests and qualifications, possibly Environmental and Natural Resources Economics, Government and Business, or Business Writing. The incoming faculty member could also develop a course in other areas of interest where the institution currently does not offer formal course offerings: economic development, small business development, etc.

Faculty are also encouraged to teach a First Year Seminar Course.  Applicant should show a willingness to be involved in collaborative teaching/interdisciplinary course offerings, community service, professional development, student advising, and shared governance activities.

August 26, 2010

Salary

Minimum starting salary is $43,000 (9 month academic year).  Summer session may occasionally offer additional opportunities for compensation.  An outstanding benefits package is included with the appointment.
