Responsibilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and commitment to teaching first and second year undergraduates. The academic year teaching assignment is 24 credits and includes the full sequence from algebra through calculus, as well as statistics, quantitative reasoning, and mathematics for elementary teachers. Opportunity to teach some upper level courses in the collaborative bachelor's degree engineering program is a possibility.
You must be willing to advise students, collaborate with colleagues in creating interdisciplinary courses, explore computer-enhanced instruction, engage in community outreach, participate in shared governance, and continue your scholarly professional development. Teaching a freshman seminar or in a learning community may be required after your first year. Development of interdisciplinary courses is encouraged. In other words, we are looking for an excellent teacher-scholar willing to participate and excel in the many dimensions of university life.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in math education or math required. ABD candidates will be considered if applicant can assure Ph.D. completion within the first year of appointment. Evidence of quality undergraduate teaching is strongly preferred. The department and campus have a preference for applicants with interest or experience in instructional technology, distance learning, learning communities, and first year experiences.
Brief Description of institution, campus and area
Part of the world-renowned UW System, the University of Wisconsin Colleges is a liberal arts institution with primary emphasis on freshman/sophomore coursework. Each of the 13 campuses of the UW Colleges offers liberal arts and pre-professional education for students beginning work toward a bachelor's degree. UW-Fox Valley, in Menasha, is the second largest of the campuses with about 1,750 students, and currently offers four bachelor's degrees with other UW campuses. Fox is located in the heart of the Fox Cities, a thriving economic and cultural center of increasing ethnic diversity. The Fox Cities include small to medium sized communities, with an aggregate population in excess of 250,000. We are approximately ninety minutes north of Milwaukee and two hours from Madison. Nearby are Appleton (immediately adjacent), Green Bay (40 miles), and Oshkosh (22 miles). The campus is also near Wisconsin's beautiful Door Peninsula, Lake Michigan, and the North Woods of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.
Starting Salary
Starting salary currently is $43,000. Additional compensation for summer and/or winterim instruction may be a possibility as needed. Details of the excellent benefits package may be found at http://www.uwsa.edu/hr/benefits.
