UW-Fond du Lac

The University of Wisconsin Colleges Department of Music seeks an energetic and creative person to build a dynamic campus-community based university instrumental music program on the UW-Fond du Lac campus. The UW-Fond du Lac campus is one of 13 campuses that comprise the UW Colleges, a freshman-sophomore transfer institution within the UW System. UW Colleges offers an excellent liberal arts and pre-professional education for students beginning work toward a bachelor’s degree.

The UW-Fond du Lac campus is located in eastern Wisconsin about an hour north of the Milwaukee metro area with convenient access to Chicago and Green Bay. The campus is located on 183 acres of prime natural and maintained land on the outskirts of the city of Fond du Lac, a population of about 45,000 people (for details see http://www.fdl.com). UW-Fond du Lac is primarily a commuter campus with about 750 students coming from a radius of about 50 miles from surrounding areas. TITLE:
Assistant Professor of Music.
APPOINTMENT:
Tenure-track faculty appointment in the Department of Music. Contract begins August 25, 2008.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completed masters degree in music is required. Preference will be given to individuals with doctoral degrees in music or who are ABD and nearing completion of their degree or who have a record of extensive successful teaching experience. The position requires outreach to the greater Fond du Lac community thus excellent communication skills and ability to interact with diverse groups of people both within and outside of the university environment is a must. Familiarity with technology based course delivery and management systems is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching load is 12 - 15 credit hours per semester. As a tenure-track position, scholarly/performance activity in the discipline, participation in campus and community service and student advising are expected. Instruction in interdisciplinary courses, first year seminar and service learning are occasionally part of the teaching load. In addition to conducting symphonic band and jazz ensemble, additional instrumental ensembles may be developed in accordance with the individual candidates' expertise. Other teaching will include general education fine arts courses in music and first year student seminars.
SALARY:
$42,000 minimum. Summer session offers additional teaching opportunities for compensation. An outstanding benefits package is included with the appointment.
