Assistant Professor of Communication & Theatre Arts

UW-Marshfield/Wood County

The University of Wisconsin Colleges Department of Communication and Theatre Arts invites applications for an Assistant Professor on its campus in Marshfield. The UW Colleges comprise one of the institutions of the University of Wisconsin System which provide freshman/sophomore, liberal arts, transfer instruction. The UW-Marshfield/Wood County is located in the central Wisconsin community of Marshfield, a city of 20,000 that is home to the fifth largest private medical clinic in the country. The medical complex includes the clinic, a hospital and a research and education foundation and is the source for a significant number of professionals in the community. The campus is developing programs to support the educational needs of the various members of the medical complex. Currently the campus serves approximately 600 students in a small-college environment that provides for small classes and individualized student attention. The campus is the primary arts provider for the community, offering year-around theatre programs, a Performing Arts Series, campus-community symphony performances, and other instrumental and vocal music programs.

TITLE:
Assistant Professor of Communication & Theatre Arts
APPOINTMENT:
Tenure-track faculty appointment in the Department of Communication & Theatre Arts. Contract begins August 25, 2008.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Terminal degree in Communications with substantial coursework in the areas of rhetoric and mass communication. Priority will be given to candidates with record of successful teaching.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach four courses (12 credit hours) per semester including Introduction to Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communications, and Mass Communications well as a combination of the following possibilities Newspaper Production/News Writing, Intercultural Communication, Organizational Communication, and Communication and Human Behavior.
  • Continued evidence of a commitment to scholarly activity in the discipline and/or the scholarship of teaching.
  • Participate in campus, institutional and community service, and the shared governance structure.
  • Recruit high school students into the communication programs.
  • Participate in collaborative teaching/ interdisciplinary courses, instructional technology, distance education, assessment of student learning, and student advising.
