UW-Marshfield/Wood County

The University of Wisconsin Colleges Department of Philosophy invites applications for an Assistant Professor on its University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County campus. The UW-Marshfield/Wood County campus is one of 13 campuses that comprise the UW Colleges, a freshman-sophomore transfer institution within the UW System with class size capped at 30 students. UW Colleges offers an excellent liberal arts and pre-professional education for students beginning work toward a bachelor's degree.

The UW-Marshfield/Wood County campus is located in the central Wisconsin community of Marshfield, a city of 20,000 (for details see http://ci.marshfield.wi.us/) that is home to the fifth largest private medical clinic in the country. Currently the campus serves approximately 600 students in a small-college environment that provides for small classes and individualized student attention. The campus is the primary arts provider for the community. TITLE:
Assistant Professor of Philosophy.
APPOINTMENT:
Tenure-track faculty appointment in the Department of Philosophy. Contract begins August 25, 2008.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. required by the contract starting date. Record of successful teaching required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
AOS: Aesthetics; AOC: Open, but candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics and other elements of the undergraduate philosophy curriculum. This position will be 50% traditional classroom instruction and 50% On Line. Training, Stipends and Course Release are offered in support of the On Line components. On Line classes will include Philosophy of the Arts and Philosophical Ideas in Literature. These courses also may be taught in traditional classroom format as enrollment permits. Normal course load is 12 credit hours per semester. Research and publication are expected, as is participation in faculty governance and community and/or professional service.
SALARY:
