Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Athletics

- Position
- The Department of Physical Education and Athletics of the University of Wisconsin Colleges anticipates an opening and invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Athletics position at the UW-Marshfield/Wood County campus. The position is tenure-track with an 80% teaching/20% athletics appointment.
- Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Physical Education or related field as indicated below preferred; Masters degree is required. Undergraduate degree required to be in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology/Science or related fields. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of successful teaching and athletic administrative experience. Also valued are interest and/or experience in ethnic studies, interdisciplinary and/or collaborative teaching, instructional technology or distance education, and the first-year experience.
- Responsibilities
- Teaching responsibilities (80%) include a 10-12 contact hour/semester teaching load, consisting of a combination of lecture, lecture/lab, and sports activity courses. The curriculum includes, but is not limited to, Fitness for Life, Personal Health and Wellness, Nutrition and Weight Management, Social Aspects of Sport, Introduction to and Principles of Physical Education, First Aid, and CPR, as well as Physical Education major and non-major activity courses such as tennis, volleyball, basketball, golf, soccer, softball and snowboarding/down-hill skiing. Options to teach distance education courses and to participate in interdisciplinary or collaborative instruction are available. Ongoing professional development and service to the department, campus, and community are expected.
Athletics responsibilities (20%) involve serving as the campus Athletic Director, such as but not limited to: budgeting, scheduling, recruitment of athletic staff, staffing recommendations/hires, event management, hiring of officials, fund-raising, oversight of student-athlete recruitment, oversight of athletic program fund-raising, academic eligibility and progress, and athletic facility management, including management of a community used fitness center.
- The Campus
- The University of Wisconsin Colleges is the freshman-sophomore liberal arts transfer institution within the world-renowned University of Wisconsin System. The UW Colleges comprises thirteen 2-year campuses around the state, each of which offers an excellent liberal arts and pre-professional education for students beginning work toward a bachelors degree. UW-Marshfield/Wood County is located in the Central Wisconsin community of Marshfield, a city of 20,000, with one of the largest private medical clinics and research institutes in the nation. The campus serves approximately 650 students who enjoy individual attention and one-on-one advising from faculty and staff who are dedicated to teaching excellence. Most students transfer to a 4-year degree granting UW institution, (UW-Stevens Point, UW-Eau Claire, and UW-Madison, are common choices) or to other public or private universities. UW-Marshfield/Wood County provides community outreach through educational and cultural arts programming. Marshfield is approximately 2 ½ hours north from Madison and 3 hours east from Minneapolis. - August 25, 2008
- Salary:
- $42,000 minimum with an outstanding benefits package. Summer session offers additional opportunities for compensation.
