A native of Richmond, Virginia, Carey teaches physics and astronomy at UW-Fond du Lac, and previously taught at UW-Fox Valley where he was advisor to the Physics Club.
Every May 1st for the last twenty years, Carey has welcomed the sunrise with his Morris dance (an ancient English ritual/folk dance) team. He also sings, runs distance races (though not very quickly), and brews his own beer. He is the treasurer of St. Pauls Episcopal Cathedral in Fond du Lac.
