What's Next?

Thanks to the Guaranteed Transfer Program, you can begin your education as a freshman at the UW Colleges and be "guaranteed" admission to another UW System institution as a junior by participating in the UW Colleges Guaranteed Transfer Program. After fulfilling certain credit and grade point average requirements, you will transfer with the same rights and privileges as those who begin their education at the UW baccalaureate institutions.

You can use the Associate of Arts & Science Degree that you earn at UW Colleges as your personal foundation for the major you want to pursue at any UW System institution.

Higher Earnings and More

Earn More.
People who earn a bachelor’s degree earn over $1 million more in their lifetime than people who did not continue their education after high school (College Board, 2001).
Have More Job Security.
People who earn a bachelor’s degree are more likely to be employed than those who did not continue their education after high school. In 1998, males were 7% more likely to be employed, and females were 14% more likely to be employed (National Center for Education Statistics data, 1998).
Vote.
People who earn a bachelor’s degree are more likely to vote: 60% of those with 1-3 years of college voted in 1996, while over 70% of those with 4 or more years of college voted in 1996 (National Business Alliance, 1998).
Volunteer.
Seventy percent of people who earn a bachelor’s degree volunteer in their communities, compared to 40 percent of people who did not continue their education after high school (National Business Alliance, 1998).

Where are they now? You’ve heard that UW Colleges is the best start for the life you want. But what does that mean, exactly? According to successful alumni from each of our campuses, it means finding their dream job after starting college and their careers at a local UW Colleges campus.

UW-Baraboo/Sauk County

Diana Shebel started her university education at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County from 1993-1995. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree from UW-Madison and is now a staff accountant for Culver Franchising Systems of Prairie du Sac. "The instructors at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County helped me to succeed and encouraged me to select an exciting and challenging career path," Shebel says.

Richard Wolkowski attended UW-Baraboo/Sauk County from 1972 to 1974. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in Soil Science at UW-Madison, and is now a soil and water management specialist for UW Extension in Madison. "The small class size and dedicated faculty there gave me the knowledge and self-confidence that I needed at UW-Madison," says Wolkowski.

Karen Evenson got her best start at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County from 1990 to 1992. After earning her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Edgewood College and her Master's Degree in Counseling from UW-Whitewater, she went on to become a psychotherapist for Sauk County Human Services. "UW-Baraboo/Sauk is a wonderful place to be a student," says Evenson.

UW-Barron County

Shari Bilodeau Brunette got her best start at UW-Barron County (Rice Lake) . After graduating from UW-Eau Claire with a B.S. in education and a Master's in teaching, her interest in technology led her to a position as manager of customer service solutions for a global travel and hospitality business. Today, she travels throughout the country, helping companies implement service management solutions.

Jeff Hile started his university education at UW-Barron County (Rice Lake), then graduated from UW-La Crosse with a degree in art education. Today this professional artist runs his own successful gallery, Dancing Bird Art Studio, teaches art at elementary and collegiate levels and designs stage sets for community theater. His work has won numerous awards in art exhibitions.

UW-Fond du Lac

Tina Duehring got her best start at UW-Fond du Lac from 1995 to 1997. After completing her general education courses at UW-Fond du Lac, Tina transferred to UW-Oshkosh. In 1999 she received her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, majoring in human resources management. Today she enjoys working in human resources at the UW-Fond du Lac.

Mike Buechel has always wanted to help grow his family's business, Buechel Stone Corporation. That's why he started his college education at UW-Fond du Lac from 1994-1996. After finishing his coursework here, he transferred to UW-Oshkosh and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management and Marketing. Now, Mike can't wait to see where his degree takes him and the family business.

Angela Theel attended UW-Fond du Lac from 1992 to 1994, where she excelled academically and became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She then transferred to UW-Oshkosh and completed a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources and Marketing in 1996. After graduation, she joined Charter Communications' human resources department, where she is currently responsible for the company's payroll.

UW-Fox Valley

Kelly Helein got her best start at UW-Fox Valley (Menasha) from 1984 to 1986. In 1988 Kelly earned a Bachelor of Science degree at UW-Madison, with a major in both International Relations and American Foreign Policy. Armed with strong communication and management skills, Kelly is succeeding as product manager for an international healthcare product provider.

Nick Milhaupt attended UW-Fox Valley (Menasha) from 1973-1974. In 1976, he graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science degree in English. Combining product knowledge with an interest in sports, Nick enthusiastically pursued a career in retail marketing. He now owns and operates a comprehensive bicycle and fitness retail store.

UW-Manitowoc

Matt Borchardtgot his best start at UW-Manitowoc from 1990 to 1993. In 1997 he received a Bachelor of Science Degree form UW-Platteville in Mechanical Engineering. He joined the work force at an international crane company as an engineer and was soon promoted to a sales rep job. He is currently the Midwest regional sales manager.

The best start for Dr. Angela Madden was the year she spent at UW-Manitowoc, 1990-1991. She transferred directly to UW-Madison, where she received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1996. She is in general practice as a veterinarian at an animal hospital.

After getting his best start at UW-Manitowoc (1990-1992), Dennis Tienor pursued a Bachelor of Science and Arts Degree in Finance from UW-Whitewater. Upon graduating in 1994, he secured a position with a statewide bank and is presently employed a s business banking officer.

UW-Marathon County

Josh (Gajewski) Conklin got his best start at UW-Marathon County (Wausau) from 1992-1993. Armed with a degree in theatre from UW-Green Bay, he headed for New York City. There he has acted off-Broadway, and in two films and CBS's "Guiding Light." "Professor Sarah Rudolph is mainly to thank, or blame, for my pursing a career in acting," he points out. "She's just wonderful."

Michele Sitko started her future at UW-Marathon County (Wausau) from 1988 to 1990. She's a pharmacist, having gotten her B.S. degree in pharmacy from UW-Madison. She returned to the Wausau area because she felt it is unique and special. She feels the same about UW-Marathon County. "I got a good strong base there," she asserts. "I would attend UW-Marathon County again in an instant."

Eric Leszczynskicurrently works at Greenheck Fan Corp. in Schofield. He got his best start at UW-Marathon County (Wausau) from 1989 to 1991. He went on to earn a degree in manufacturing engineering from UW-Madison and Eric notes that "at UW-Marathon County I received quality, top-notch instruction, valuable non-classroom experiences, and made friendships with professors and students that I will value the rest of my life."

UW-Marinette

Judy Dellisse-Gallagher started her future at UW-Marinette from 1988 to 1990. She graduated form UW-Green Bay with a major in elementary education. She is currently teaching third grade at St. Leo's Urban Academy in Milwaukee.

Dave Bedrosian attended UW-Marinette from 1985-1986. He transferred to Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI, and graduated in 1989 with a degree in electrical engineering. He is a motion control engineer with Automotion Process Control in Chicago.

Dr. Faith Pristelgot her best start at UW-Marinette from 1985 to 1987. She graduated form Marquette University with a degree in dentistry. She now runs her own dental office in Peshtigo, WI.

UW-Marshfield/Wood County

Corey Jaskolski(UW-Marshfield/Wood County 1995-1997) garnered international recognition for his research before he even finished his undergraduate studies. His paper on ultra-short laser pulses nabbed the top prize at the Society of Physics Students meeting in Helsinki, Finland, in 1999. Armed with a bachelor's degree from UW-Stevens Point in math and physics, he's off to MIT on a DuPont Fellowship for graduate work in electrical engineering and computer science.

Megan Morrisey attended UW-Marshfield/Wood County from 1996-1998, and now has her sights set on law school. She graduated from UW-Madison in 2000 with a major in behavioral science and law and a minor in criminal justice. She works as an investigator for the Legal Defense Program at the UW Madison School of Law.

UW-Richland

Glenn Bower, Ph.D.and former UW-Richland student, has a job that takes him around the country with his student team to compete in automotive competitions… and to Detroit to work with automakers. A UW-Madison faculty associate in mechanical engineering, he works with students on the Future Car, Future Truck, SAE Baja, Formula SAE, and SAE Clean Snowmobile teams.

Before she finished her bachelor's degree, Holly Nelson already has a job in her field, recreation therapy. She credits small classes at UW-Richland with providing her the best start. Holly chose a UW-Richland, in part, because she could play on the volleyball and basketball teams, sports she continues to enjoy.

Visual and rap recording artist Cameron Clark studied music at UW-Richland and then began his career while still a scholarship student at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. Under his stage name, "KAMM," he's recorded his first rap CD, sold on Amazon.com on the Crazed Piranha label. "UW-Richland was a great experience for me. I appreciate the sincerity of the people there," he said.

UW-Rock County

Frank Scott got his best start at UW-Rock County (Janesville) from 1970 to 1972. In 1974, he graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in business administration. With an emphasis in accounting, he worked in the audit area for Arthur Andersen LLP in Milwaukee before joining Hufcor in Janesville as vice president of finance.

UW Sheboygan

Dr. Deborah L. Schultz began her university career at UW Sheboygan from 1986 to 1987. She went on to earn her medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Dr. Schultz is currently an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, in the Department of Family Medicine, Fox Valley Regional Campus, Appleton, Wisconsin.

Pharmacist Dennis Grapentine began his future at UW Sheboygan from 1966 to 1968. He completed his B.S. in pharmacy at UW-Madison, followed by 28 years of service as a pharmacist in Sheboygan. Recently Dennis was promoted to district manager of 22 Aurora Pharmacies in central and northern Wisconsin.

UW-Washington County

Dr. Kathleen Schleif Roth, former president of the prestigious Wisconsin Dental Association, said her road to the top of her profession started in UW-Washington County's small classes. "Unlike at some larger schools," she explained, "we were taught by Ph.D.s, who were really excited about what they were doing," she said. "The enthusiasm they bring to class is one of the biggest benefits of a school like UW-Washington County (West Bend)."

Matthew Braegersays studying business at UW-Washington County (West Bend) was a great way to start his college education. "It helped me to focus on school and offered me a lot of individual attention form professors." His UW-Washington County studies also gave him solid preparation for the fearsome CPA exam, and helped him get a great job with one of Milwaukee's premier accounting firms.

Jeffrey J. LaBomascus, who started his career at at UW-Washington County (West Bend) says his one-on-one experiences with the professors there made a lasting impression. The memory of their ready availability and considerate nature helped him form his philosophy of excellent personal service, which serves him well today as president of the Mayville (WI) Savings Bank.

UW-Waukesha

James Frederick attended UW-Waukesha from 1986 to 1989, and then went on to earn a Master's of Science in Synoptic Meteorology and Climatology from UW-Milwaukee. What do you do with that? Well, he's employed by the Dane Country Regional Airport as a weather observer. He also lectures at UW-Milwaukee in meteorology and math.

Kari Sproutwas a student at UW-Waukesha from 1993 to 1995. After transferring to UW-Milwaukee, she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. She graduated summa cum laude and received departmental honors there. She's using her degree to teach and loves working with young children.

Chris Tillattended UW-Waukesha from 1989 to 1991. He received his degree form UW-Madison in communication and feels UW-Waukesha was a great stepping-stone. He is a senior account executive in the public relations department at Cramer-Krasselt, the largest communications firm in Wisconsin.
