I earned my Ph.D. in Biology at Duke University where my dissertation investigated the molecular biology of lichen symbiosis and microbial communication. My post-doctoral research at the University of Idaho investigated the genomes of free-living chytrid fungi, and the chytrid pathogenic frog-killer that is decimating frog populations world-wide. Before heading to graduate school, I was a professional baker for 5 years where I realized my passion for microbes, food, and science. When I'm not collecting or identifying lichens, I enjoy exploring the fascinating intersect of cooking, chemistry, and microbiology.
