Dr. Christopher Hays, Professor of Anthropology at UW-Washington County, has been awarded a sabbatical for the spring semester of 2016.
Dr. Hays has proposed a sabbatical project that will have him driving around the country, examining Poverty Point artifacts. The project would involve examining collections of ceramic artifacts associated with the Poverty Point culture in numerous locations in the American Southeast and Midwest. The examination would include inspecting and photographing the artifacts and identifying specimens for further examination. This latter sample would be borrowed and examined through careful inspection and subjected to geophysical techniques to address questions concerning the movement and exchange of the artifacts.
