  • How do I request items from other libraries?
    The UW-System allows faculty and students to borrow items from any UW institution.  Faculty can check out books for a semester—other media such as CDs and DVDs vary campus to campus. The borrowing process is called UB or Universal Borrowing.  You also have access to libraries world-wide through Interlibrary Loan or ILLiad.  To find out more about UB, ILLiad, and additional resources, see our Instructor ResearchGuide.
  • Where can I go for research assistance?
    Your local librarians are available to assist with research questions in person, by phone, email, or through our online chat service.  You can find contact information on our Contact Us/Help page or our Staff Directory page.
  • Where can I find information about Copyright and Fair Use?
    Your campus Librarian is a great source of information on all things copyright.  We also have a Copyright & Licensing Resource Guide that you might find helpful; and you can find The Colleges’ Copyright Policy on the UW Colleges website under Administration, and Copyright. There are sections on Books & Articles, Course Packets, DVDs & Videos, Images and more located on the left-hand side menu.  Your local library staff can help you with any questions you may have about copyright, and may be able to provide you with additional documentation or tools.
  • What’s the loan period for faculty?
    Faculty members are allowed to check most books out for an entire semester, as long as they are not reference or reserve items. This includes most callslip and UB items, but does not include items borrowed through Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad).  AV materials have much shorter loan periods which are unique to each campus.
  • Can I renew my library items online?
    You can renew UW System library items online if they are not overdue, you have not exceeded the number of times an item can be renewed, the item is not on hold for someone else, the item is not on reserve, and if the item type allows for renewals (some libraries do not allow equipment, DVDs, or other special materials to be renewed). To renew an item online, access your account through Search@UW,  login with your campus network username and password. You may request a renewal of Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) items by contacting your local library staff or by accessing your ILLiad account from you campus library’s home page.
  • Is there a list of ejournals and databases?
    Yes, you can search for ejournals and databases using the A to Z Article Resource List or Databases by Subject List.
  • Where can I look up a citation?
    You can look up a citation just by entering pieces of the citation into Search@UW
  • Is it possible to embed a Films on Demand video in my D2L course?
    You can view how-to instructions on our UW Colleges Instructor Library Resources Libguide. Licensing/copyright questions can be directed to the Library Support Services Office.
